There are a few points I like to surface to my clients, those include: receiving professional guidance and support to navigate difficult emotions and challenges, learn effective strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health issues, help understand yourself better - including your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and learn communication skills to help enhance your relationships with others. Therapy can foster personal development and help you achieve your goals and can reduce symptoms of mental health conditions, improving overall well-being and quality of life.
If you're new to counseling, it's normal to feel a bit uncertain and anxious about what to expect during your initial session. Don't let this overwhelm you! Inquire about what to anticipate during your first session to ease your mind.
During the first few sessions, I will explore your reasons for seeking therapy and what you hope to achieve, discuss personal history, current concerns, and any symptoms you are experiencing. I also emphasize aiming to establish a comfortable and trusting relationship with my clients in order to sustain the therapeutic relationship. Lastly, I will discuss confidentiality and the limits to it, as well as the exploration of the frequency of sessions, duration of therapy, and what to expect in future sessions.
