What is my approach to therapy and my clients?

Hello, I’m Ricardo Infanzón, and thanks for taking a moment to get to know me.
I’m originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, where I began my journey in mental health by studying psychology at the University of Puerto Rico. Later, I moved to Colorado to pursue my Master’s degree at the University of Denver and have recently relocated to the Chicago area.

My interest in mental health was sparked by a deep curiosity about human behavior—how our experiences, environments, and even genetics shape the way we live, relate, and grow. I find it meaningful to walk alongside people through periods of change, pain, and self-discovery, helping them find a path that feels true and sustainable.
I come from a Puerto Rican and Cuban background and speak both Spanish and English, with a working knowledge of Portuguese. My heritage has shaped much of who I am and how I connect with others, both personally and professionally.

Outside the office, I’m passionate about travel—whether it’s exploring the U.S. or diving into new cultures abroad. I especially enjoy experiencing places through local food, photography, and conversations with the people who live there.

As a therapist, I take a collaborative, client-centered approach. I strive to meet each person where they are, build on their strengths, and support their goals. I don’t rely on a single method or philosophy—instead, I draw from a variety of psychological theories to respond to each client’s unique needs, experiences, and pace. I have particular experience supporting individuals navigating anxiety, significant life changes, and depression. Whether you’re navigating a major transition, working through identity questions, or simply looking for a space to reflect and grow, I’m here to support you with presence, empathy, and care.

I try to make my therapy sessions a two-way experience. I believe people are the experts on their own lives. Even though I’m trained in mental health, I still have things to learn from my clients. I personally value feedback—both good and bad—and I encourage honesty both in and outside of sessions. My goal is to create a space where people don’t just feel safe, but feel empowered to voice their thoughts and feelings.

I believe therapy can be helpful for anyone who’s looking to heal, grow, vent, or work through things they can’t process on their own or with their current support system. That said, what I think matters most isn’t whether therapy in general is right for you, but whether the therapist is the right fit. In my opinion, a good connection between therapist and client is really what makes the work effective. For me, therapy works best when you feel seen, understood, and supported by the person sitting across from you, and that’s why I either work hard to build that relationship with clients or be honest and guide them to someone who can be a better fit for them.
