M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy

What is my approach to therapy and my clients?

I work with individuals, couples, and families, in a variety of life stages, circumstances, and cultures, to support them in their journey of growth and healing. It has been my honor to journey with people with a variety of challenges, including depression, anxiety, grief, eating disorders, PTSD, developmental trauma, bipolar disorder, addictions, challenging life transitions, and relational challenges in couples and families. I also have experience working with people whose stories include neurodiversity, as well as intellectual and developmental disabilities. These clients have taught me so much about what it means to be human in a world where suffering is a part of life, and where relational connection is so healing, yet challenging to maintain.

I meet clients where they are, and care deeply about getting to know them and their story. We work at their own pace to first find stability and safety in their distress. We then explore the coping and relational patterns at play and appreciate how these patterns have made sense in the context of their lives. Together, we create a new experience in relationship that begins to shift those patterns, to make them more adaptive and sustainable. Deep healing and change do not happen overnight, but over time, clients often need my support less and less as their new patterns take root in their everyday life in community outside the therapy room.

My work is rooted in family-systems theory and attachment theory, which both have to do with the ways our closest relationships shape and influence us. Often, I use Emotionally-Focused therapy for Couples and Individuals as a specific way to approach relational healing. I am also sensitive to the ways that we show up in therapy with our whole person, shaped by our cultures, sexuality, spiritual life, trauma, and other factors.
